1994 LeSabre engine running rough, accelleration problems
I blew a head gasket in my 94 LeSabre, replaced that and it runs good, no overheating but when i mash the accelerator down the motor races like I am pumping the gas. I am told this is normal, but I have never seen this before. It also is running a bit rough.
Is it possible when it got hot that it damaged an injector? |

Yes, maybe. that, or a sticking pcv. Also, I would check the ignition coils. however, unless you are getting a vibration at throttle, that is probably not the answer.

I had a mechanc check it out and he changed one of the coils, he said it has 3 coils. It runs much better but it still idles a little rough, especially if it is in gear and you have the brake on. He said I need to have the exhaust manifold gasket replaced. It is also a bit hard on gas, I have a 93 Buick Lesabre with almost 200,000 miles and it gets about 25 mpg, this car is barely getting 18 and it seems to be starved for power. It does seem to get a little vibration at the throttle now that I think of it, it feels likethe front wheels wobble slightly. |

Re: 1994 LeSabre engine running rough, accelleration problems
Hmmm. Try this. He replaced only one, right? Check the other two. Definatly check the other 2. Let me guess, put it in reverse, and it is even more noticeable? Okay, simply pull the wires off the posts on the coils, and make sure that they spark a violent blue, and that it is at a quick and even pace. ANY irregularity means you have a bad coil. You would do better replacing them yourself, B/c I think that mechanics usually aren't the most honest, but make sure you buy the more expensive ones, such as the $45-$50 one. Want a brand? e-mail me.

Re: 1994 LeSabre engine running rough, accelleration problems
symtoms never change. I have an '86 limited, and It was doing similar things with gas mileage. but, I would definalty relate a power-starved vibration to an ignition coil. very easy to change. any questions, go ahead and e-mail me.

Oh, pull them off one at a time using rubber gloves and long, plastic pliers
Its quite shocking otherwise!

Oh, get the tires balanced (usually done 4 free), and if wobble persists, get an alignment

I have to admit it is running a heck of a lot better since the one coil was changed but it is not perfect. I appreciate your help and I am going to check the other coils. You wouldn't happen to have a diagram or know where to locate the coils, I am not a great mechanic, I know enough to get me in trouble. As for the PCV Valve you mentioned earlier, what would that do? The check engine light has never come on yet throughout the whole ordeal. |

Re: 1994 LeSabre engine running rough, accelleration problems
I would forget about the valve until you have checked out the coils. I can e-mail you a picture showing where they are if you want. Just e-mail me @ [email protected]. I have it circled in red. I will get it to you as soon as you e-mail me
