Why are people such dicks?

I've just been browsing around the forums ( slow work day ) and am amazed at the amount of nominds that post on the boards.

I'm not going to mention any names, I wish I could do that thing where you cough and say the name , but in the short time I've been here I see over and over the same stupid shit coming up.

Like what the heck is up with some people anyways?

This is an awesome forum. You can find out pretty much anything about anything.
I have an 19** (whatever) and the lights flick when I turn the key back, someone somewhere here will come up with the right answer.
Religion, science, math, relationships, pretty well anything you can think of the answer pops up.
Really though, where else would you find such a knowledge base?

Then along comes some dick and posts retarded crap just to piss people off or says mean and hurtful stuff. I just don't get it.

I guess I'm just naive ( or Canadian ).

Anyhoo, I just wanted to put this up 'cause I was sitting here shaking my head at some of the posts.

I will say that it is a bit of fun to look and see which threads are locked and the reasons why.
Some of the putdowns by you guys to people who really deserve it are friggin' priceless.
Very intelligent humour.

Being mean to people can be fun for people sometimes.
After all, you are talking to people you can't see, who can't see you, and who will never meet each other.
It's easy ot get carried away sometimes (I do it too!)

I try not to put people down, so I hope I'm not one of those nameless people mentioned in the original post. But some people do get carried away sometimes, as Karen mentioned. But there are also those people who just act like idiots on purpose. They post stuff just to get people worked up. Today is a great example of that (Raz and others know what I'm talking about).

Still, his point is valid. Some people post with the same mentality of the vandal breaking windows, or the tagger with the spray paint writing on public property.
Personally, its a sign of an insecure person, someone who is uncertain of themselves, who feels powerless and wants to exert some power or influence over others by posting like an asshole.
Sure its a waste, but by contrast, the rest of us just seem that much more brilliant.

Ok, I see a lot of people being dicks here, of course, at least I am not seeing a lot of dicks. ( sausage parties aren't my thing, really)

Seriously enough, humour is great, be it at my expense or someone else's, and subtle or sarcastic humour is even better. But, why talk to piss people off? Because some of us are multi-tasking fools, able to talk and piss people off at the same time.

I try to avoid inflammatory comments on the boards, as I do find that there are a lot of intelligent people out there who know what they speak of. On the other hand, I frequent a lot of boards here where someone talking out of their ass is dispensing info. Then, I get irked. Not really, I merely try to set records straight.

If people want to fight, flame, or otherwise be ignorant, by all means do so, but please, not behind a screen name, and not on the forums. Do it on a more personal level, one at a time.

A lot of good points there.

You can tell when someone is j/k or trying to be funny in a sarcastic sort of way. I think that type of humour is a blast and wouldn't want it any other way. It's fun as hell to read and I get a kick out of it.
The things that bug me are people that have like 2 posts and they get on here and put stuff like " you suck" You're a fag" etc.
What's the point? So they want to get banned?

Then I see banned under their name and I wonder if these guys just register under a different name and do it all over again.
All that extra work for the mods must be nice. I guess that's why they get paid the big bucks...
