Silverado Vortec 4.8 Redline?

Working on the optimal settings w/Hypertech programmer for my 2001 Silverado w/4.8 Vortec, K&N filter, Flowmaster exhaust. 160 deg Powerstat coming in soon as well.

What I'm really curious about is the *maximum* RPM I can set the rev limiter to without having to worry about damaging anything. Has anyone else played around with this for the 4.8? I'd be interesting in hearing other people's settings for rev limiter and shift points.

dont change it till you get the thermostat. and when you do only bump the LIMITER up 200 more rpm lets say stock is 5200rpm take the LIMITER up to 5400rpm then change the shift points im not familiar with the 4.8 specs but the 5.3 is a walk in the park you can give me your base stats then i can think up a setup for you no prblem!!

I'm not 100% positive, but I think the stock rev limiter is set to 5600. The 1-2 shift (stock) is at 5400, and the 2-3 is at 5200.

Re: Silverado Vortec 4.8 Redline?

ok take the rev limiter up to 5900 1-2shift +1 only 2-3 anywhere from +1 to +7 i beleive 3-4 +4 and take it out imidiatley after that and test it and if it comes to the rev after being set that high drop it dop 1mph at a time in which ever shift point your in. So if while youre in second gear and it shifts to 3rd but taps the limiter and youl hear it, it might be faint but listen real carefully, then lower -1mph on the 2-3 shift poimts and so on

Hmm... last time I ran one, didn't seem like he was that much quicker... about 1/2 a length after around an 1/8 mile. His was the crew-cab version, the '01 model... specs say it's 260HP.

I'm runnin' a 3.73 rear-end to match his, and even with my little 4.8 I know I'm putting out better than 260 now. We'll just have to see!

Re: Silverado Vortec 4.8 Redline?

The other day I test drove a new Regency 2WD with the 4.8. I can tell you that the rev limiter cuts in at 5500 rpm. I have banged the tachmoter needle off that number repeatedly. Truck sounded awesome!!
