Smile Getting a '92 RS 25th Anniversary.

Well, it will be my first car (yeah, I'm a youngin') and I'm getting it from my friend for $750 cause he is going off into the army. It's a '92 RS 25th Anniversary (w/ new T-tops, Automatic, V8, blah blah blah). Just want to know a few things... cause I need to do some work on it... lol, you'll see.

Well, first of all, he is nice enough to be getting a new paint job for it. Right now it's color is... primer. lol. But a nice new paint job (he works at a paint shop) of some great looking gloss black. So that's great.

It has a recently rebuilt engine, but the odomoder has not yet been reset... but whatever. lol

Anyway, he did some stuff to it that I will need to fix up, but the car has some initial problems...

... for some reason, every now and then the thing just overheats. And sometimes so bad that you can't drive it for a day. I figure it must be a pipe or something on the radiator, I could be wrong. But he also drives EXTREMELY fast and hard, and I was wondering if that could be a contributing factor...

... ok, this car is damn loud enough... but I go over today and he's all "Guess what! I made the car louder!" Great. Paint the damn thing already. lol. So I ask what he did... "I shaved the tip!" Wonderful. Isn't that illegal? I was planning on getting it quieted down a bit, cause I'm not a real big fan of loud mufflers... but what would I need for a quieter one? And how much do they normally cost? Links? Anything? lol

... Some minor damage (dings and dents) on the front bumper, but nothing a bra cant fix (he already has one). Some minor damage to the back as well, but I plan on getting it real nice.

... Doesn't have a radio as of now, but I'll just get a cheap one...

... I also have a friend who is a mechanic and is begging me to let him work on it (for free ) as long as I let him drive it. So naturally, I said yes. lol.

... I plan on putting some money into this car. Cause, well... it's a Camaro, and ever since I was real little I always wanted one. And to be getting your dream car as your first car is a big thing. And, it's a 25th Anniversary... so I figure it will be worth something someday.

Anyway, just give me some feedback, what I should and shouldn't do, you know. The basics.

Thanks!

Personally I would fix all the body damage BEFORE he paints it. Gonna look a helluva lot better. The overheating problem could be numerous things, thats gonna need some more detailed info to resolve. From the things you mentioned sounds like it is going to be real nice. Make sure you post some pics, I like befores and afters. Good Luck with your project.

you can just get like a borla muffler, it has like 3 things that can make it sound: soft, regular, loud. so that shouyld solve your problem!

Yeah, I'm also planning on doing a little bit of work on the interior as well... ok... well... alot of work. I'm probably going to redo the entire interior cause it's a ratty gray right now... lol.

For the muffler, since he just shaved the tip and it's still the stock muffler, should I just buy a new tip for now? I don't mind the stock sound

Re: Getting a '92 RS 25th Anniversary.

You could just replace the stock tip. You shouldnt really be having overheating problems if the engine was just rebuilt recently, did he get a good shop to build it or did he do it himself??

Either way 750 bucks sounds like a steal, now how about some pictures??

If youd like to redo the interior, keep in mind that seats from newer camaros and trans ams are direct bolts ins. You can find a set of power leather seats that have barely been used from a wrecked car and just bolt them in. The center console also fits but requires a little bit of work to do so. Theres also an ABS headliner you can get to replace the stock cloth one that usually goes saggy with time.

you should tell him to go with the original aniversary edition paint, it looks so much better than solid black...
