Ceasing production of the GTR and Silvia

Sorry...I posted in the US forum...but I really wanted to let everyone know.

Nissan made a formal announcement today saying they will cease all production of the GTR and Silvia in Aug '02. The announcement comes as lack of demand for un-economical sports vehicles reaches its peak in Japan. Nissan stated that production of a new model GTR may begin again in 4 or 5 years...but no new models are expected anytime soon. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news...well...for some of us. For those of us who already own...that means the value of our vehicles go up!

Hi GTR2.7L, I dunno whether to laugh or cry
In a way, it is sad, really sad! No more production GTR. And no new GTR for 4-5 years! Is the GTR gonna survive this?
Viewed from a different viewpoint, it is good news for current owners of R32,R33 and R34. The value is gonna go up and up. At least for the next 4 years! And the urban legend of the Godzilla will still live to chill the spine of other sports car owners.

well i've been thinkin about it. i doubt that they would stop makin siliva's silva's aren't wroth and don't cost as much as the GT-R. if its a top of the line car then its more understandible. but a silvia i dunno~~ maybe they should bring them to the states~ i bet you a whole bunch of people like me would buy them. new or used~

This is not speculation...it's been all over Japanese news for the past two days.
The GTR is probably coming back...but not for a few years.

Question

It seems strange to me that if nissan had intended to cease production of the GTR then why would they produce the r35 concept car?

And if the concept car didn't get good reception from the public doesn't that simply mean that the concept is wrong not the brand in general?

not meaning to contrdict anyone it just doesn't make any sense to me thats all

The R35 (or V35 is the real name) is in production - just not a GTR version....this has been something that been on the table for a few years - lets face it - nissan has been in trouble for a while - and no longer fully japanese owned - but owned by the French (peugeot).. Nissan has too many sports models - 300z, 200sx, silvia, skyline - The skyline will lose here due to being only sold new in Japan and NZ (does OZ get'em new?!)...NZ is a piss ass small market compared to USA or Euroland....Its a shame.......I guess that the car is tooo difficult to produce in left hand drive or something....All I can say is - I hope they dont turn the GTR into that other thing - It just loses what the GTR is about - a big phat fast ass kicking whale....

The GT-R will be coming back sooner or later. The big question is, did they totally axed the Silvia or are they gona bring that back too?

grrrrrrr whats wrong with the silvia's? they're awesome cars that are less expensive to make then the skylines. well if they axe that too, then what are the sports models left in nissan's line up? the 350Z? that won't do it at all. knowin that there are much better cars out there that nissan once made.
