Unhappy head gasket for a 2001 chevy cavalier

hi, i'm new to this. i have a question. i own a 2001 chevy cavalier, and its in the shop right now to have the head gasket fixed. what would an average price be to have this work done to the car? i was quoted a price of $1,200. any information about the pricing, or anything else with the head gasket would be appreciated. thanks!

To say the least, that is more than I would pay for JUST a head gasket replacement. Unless the head needs to be machined that is too much IMO.

Re: head gasket for a 2001 chevy cavalier

yes my old cavy had the same problem. And yes the head needs to be machined. But mechanic only charged me 800 for it, then i sold the car. It was the second time the headgasket blew on it. AND GM OFFERED A SILENT RECALL ON THE BLOWN HEAD GASKET AND WILL FIX IT FOR FREE!!!!!!!!!

I agree wrong forum take is somewhere else........But hey that is to much for a cavalier!

It should be around the 800 or less mark!
