will a viscous LSD drift well?

I have caught the Drift Bug and I want to put an LSD in my SR20DET powered 240sx. Viscous seems to be way more affordable than clutch type. Will the viscous LSD drift very well, or shiuld I save my money for the clutch type?

it sucks if you want to get to serious drifting.

Re: will a viscous LSD drift well?

but drifting is about the driver and his/her skill, so don't worry aout it too much. any lsd is better than none.

the clutch type would make it much easier, plus its more dependable

Re: will a viscous LSD drift well?

yea viscous wouldn't be the best choice, its worth the extra money to get a clutch type LSD because it will last longer, be easier, and more fun

Re: will a viscous LSD drift well?

What about the PHANTOM GRIP limited slip conversions they sell on NOPI? Sounds cool? Does it work?

shit you can get a car all sideways and control a drift with an open differential if you know what your doing(hint hint other then over powering the corner lol)

so a VLSD will work even better then an open to make the rear end slide out easier

a clutch type will last longer and locks up the most. All a LSD really does is make the rear end slide out easier in turns with both tires spinning the same speed and covering different distances from a slide.

a VLSD is ok, it essentially works just as good as a clutch type, just doesn't lock up quite as harshly as a properly adjusted clutch diff for hard lock-up, and it also does not last as long as a clutch diff for drifting, it wears out quick when your burning tires up all the time.

a Phantom Would Suck. all it does is wedge the spider gears into the Housing via A Spring and Two Blocks. Its torque Capacity has to be extremly limited and its Grinding Metal on Metal (granted Clutch types do this but the clutch packs are replaceable and its in a way that was considered when engineered)

Re: will a viscous LSD drift well?

Do you know someone that had a Phantom? Cuz that seems like a cheaper way to go, but I know you get what you pay for. Just wondering!

I Dont have one... nor will i ever. The FF DSM guys have had mixed results with them (drag) but the AWD guys hate em. either way id put money on that at a drift event it would work about as well as a viscous for one Run before Fn the Diff up.

Re: will a viscous LSD drift well?

phantom's suck.

and you definately need an lsd and some power if you want to drift. you should be running at least in the mid-15 arena and have a fairly good suspension setup (at least strut/spring upgrade). but lsd (any lsd) is definately a must. anything upwards of that is your own preference, and your own wallet
