mitsubishi new/repair engine build

im thinking about getting a 1996 mitsu 3000gt SL wit well over 84k miles on it. my family said, "mitsubishi cars break down easily"... well if i do get that car how much would u think if i bring it to the misubishi shop and ask for a new or a repair engine. the car would cost 8-9g i can only spend up to 14-15g's on a car. also they want me to get a civic? wtf.... i really hate them riceboy cars.... not to be a hater but many asians have them already. btw im in sac so yea.. barely see a 3000gt roll by.

Dude, just get the car. I've had my Mitsubishi for a year now, I bought it used, way used. I am its 4th owner. the car is a '94 and it had 109k miles when I bought it. I have had it in the shop only once in 1 year and the car has 120k miles now, if that is not reliable then I dont know what is. You want a car you never have to take into a shop......go get a Civic. If you wanna spank that Civic and pick up twice as many chicks then get a 3000GT. But remember, these cars are only for the hard core, just like a 300ZX, RX-7 and Supra. you have to stay on top of the maintenance, dont just drive it and garage it and forget about it. All machines need maintenance......except civics! but they are freakinsh alien vehicles of impotence.

No dude, I dont mean take out the motor and rebuild it every 20,000 miles! just simple maintenance. change your timing belt on time replace tensioners and water pump along with that. keep the fluids fresh, change the oil on time, motor mounts, radiator hoses ect.... Look bro its a high performance car, so show it some performance on your behalf. the Insurance company is gonna shaft you cause you are young and your gonna drive a 2 door "Sports car". how in the world could you possibly compare this to a silly little family four banger like a Corrola S?
Oh and dont ever call us old cars, our cars never age they become legends.

Re: mitsubishi new/repair engine build

Tranny conversion is like 3-4 grand. So just buy the one you want the first time around. Yes, a shop can do all the maintence on your car if you pay them...but where is the fun in that. Plus you will get raped by most shops/dealerships. At 84k, you definantly do not need a new engine. Yes your insurance will be more than a corolla. Realize these are two completely different cars. A civic/corolla is a family economy sedan meant to last forever and get good gas mileage, a 3000gt is built to go faster and look sexy while doing it. They are average on maintenence, if you take care of them they will last. If you beat the hell out of them they wont. Either way insurance will be higher than a civic or a corolla. Bottom line...put more thought into this decision, because they are drastically different cars. If you want to save money or get 30mpg, 3000gts are not the way to go.

Your 1996 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 is the 92nd out of the 315 that were made that year. Only 21 of which are exactly identical.

IMO...3000gt's are nice...depending on the year...and are one of those ars that get dogged by younger drives...so doing a maintenance check is good...also u did good by coming to a place like this to ask questions b4 u brought it instead of buying it and then asking questions

I get about 20 mpg on my 91 sl i never went a whole tank without a race though . but it all depends on how you drive if its a manual u control the mpg a little. If you drive by redlineing ur gears ur gas goes quick but if you drive in higher gears at lower rpm's you'll get the most mpg. As to your question with the celica GTS if your getting an SL u got 222hp under your hood and the gts has 180hp if im right so considering the weight difference it should be a good race.

What makes you think the motor needs to be rebuilt?
