Stereo locked out
I have just got my 93 Camry back from head gasket work among other things(timming belt, new rad, plug wires, dist cap, manifold set, left and right head gasket). Anyway my stereo is locked out the anti theft system must have kicked in and it won't work. I need the code to unlock it, and how to unlock it once I ahve the code. Do I need to go to the dealer to have it hooked up to a computer or what??? I have no idea. Any advice would be great! Thanks

Do you have the codes? Look in the glove box, or the owners information. If you bought the car used, and don't have the codes, you'll have to prove to the dealer that the radio wasn't stolen.
If the work you had done was done at a dealer, than bring it to them, and tell them about it. If they realize they caused the problem, they should fix it for you. |

Re: Stereo locked out
If you have the codes, you can enter them with the numerical keys on your stereo, but if you don't just like don said, you'll have to take it to Toyota and prove to them that it wasn't stolen somehow. I actually think that the serial number is linked to the VIN number somehow, but they'd have to go through assembly records to find that out, and god knows how long that would take.

I don't have the codes. I bought the car used and only have the owners manual. I called Toyota Canada and told them the problem, I gave them the serial/vin number and they gave me the original dealership name and number. They told me to contact my local dealer who would contact the original dealer and get the info. MY local dealer didn't seem to have much faith in the information I was given, so who knows how long it will take to get this code from them. Does anyone know where else or how else to resolve this issue, cracked code or something of that nature??? Thanks for the replies so far, it is good to know that once I have the code I can do it myself.

Re: Stereo locked out
Well, more than likely the dealer will give you the runaround. You might want to try searching the internet for "stereo codes" or something. I'm pretty sure that I stumbled onto a website a long time ago with access codes for the head units and it seemed like it had the right stuff. Just look around online, and let us know what you find out. Best of luck.
