What is correct tire size on 92 Dakota ?

What is correct tire size on 92 Dakota ? the tires that are on the truck now are 225/70/15 and look to wide to me. what is the correct size tire for this rim/92 dakota ? this might be the right size for all i know ? just wanted to know for sure before i put new tires on the truck, thanks

On the inside door frame of the truck, or on the door itself, there should be a label that says what the size should be on the back and on the front. If it's not there, it should be in your owner's manual...

If you have a standard 6 inch rim, the original tire was a Goodyear Invicta GL. Size 215/75R15. What you have on now are acceptable. I have two 225-70's on the rear of my '95 Sport, they work great. That tire size, by the way, is assuming that you have 2wd, and a 6 inch rim width. Pay no attention to the jam sticker, it simply lists the minimum size acceptable for that vehicle.

The sticker lists the correct size tire that belongs on the vehicle and the proper air pressure, something that everyone should be paying attention to. Changing that size can have a drastic effect on the vehicle and needs to be taken into account when going up or down in tire/wheel size.

Sorry, but I stand by what I said. I have been reading those stickers since they began, and I have only seen a few that I agree with. As far as my '95 Sport goes, when I got it used it had new P205/70R15's. That is about equivalant to P195/75. They looked completely wrong, rode poorly, and caused the speedo and odo to be 4% off. A worse example is an '88 S10 Blazer, which calls for P205/75R15 on a 15X7 rim. That is laughable. Just mount one, I have seen it done, and you will see how wrong that is. That mounting will produce a sectional that is absolutely unsafe. Please check tire specs. as provided by the tire makers. There you will see that they call for sectional width to be 1.5 to 2.0 inches greater that the rim width. This is absolutely impossible to attain with a P205/75 on a 7 inch rim. Therefore that sidewall is running almost vertical. that is not the designed cross-sectional view, and leads to serious problems with overheating, AND load-bearing capacity. You may put whatever tire and rim combo on a vehicle that you please, but when your tires wear out or fail on average at half their service mileage, maybe you will understand what I'm talking about. Ford and Firestone still disagree to this day about those famous Explorer tires, I guess we can too.

My vote is for checking the tire spec on the manufacturer's site.

Falken and Hankook come to mind (I run them on my 240sx). They tell you what the minimum and maximum width rims you can run on their tires.

I would like to ask you guys this.

I drive my truck 90% of the time on the highway and 10% on shit NYC roads.

I would like to get a wider rim and tire setup with a healthy sidewall for ride quality.

I hear the newer trucks come with 16" wheels.

I will also be towing the 240sx with this truck.

Do you guys/gals have any suggestions?
