Oil Filter replacement

I have had a good look around but I can't find info on this. I have worked on a good many cars and never come across a oil filter as differcult to change as the tegs. Has any one come up with an easy way of getting at this thing. I have tried it up on stands but there seems to be no room to get a wench on it or to turn it. It also does not seem to tighten as usual. I heard of someone crushing it trying to get it off and when they screwed the new one on, there was no finger tight and then a 1/4 turn it just snapped tight.

Is there something special about these oil filters. do you need special tools???

i agree, theres hardly any room to get ur hands in there to take off the oil filter and the oil filter removal tools that i have are useless in try n to take off the filter.
this is how i removed my filter:

1st drain the oil from the car

2nd, get under the car and take a long screw driver and puncture a hole in the oil filter by hitting the screw driver with a hammer. u dont wanna puncture the hole on the filter too close to the engine. u wanna do it about 1 inch from where the filter ends (NOT 1 inch from the side where the filter is closer the the engine, but the other side of the filter.) when u do this oil will start to leak, so be prepared to get messy! oki now turn the screw driver which will turn the oil filter. when u cant turn the screw driver any more (Because it will hit the engine), go ahead and make another whole in the filter and continue doing this until u can turn the filter with ur hands! remove filter and install new one =)

it's a messy way of doing it, but thats how i remove my filter all the time

Thanks for the advice. I have heard of this technique before, I will give it a try. This is a B18B 93 LS. Has any one have problems with the filters being difficult to turn. I had a mechanic crush the old one using a webbed strap type filter wrench (these are used with a socket ratchet wench and usually work well in a confined space). This Mechanic said he never wanted to see the car again so I change the oil every 10,000 KM and get the Honda Dealer to do it every second time. I am just sick of paying $500 for an oil change!

Honda/Acura filters aren't hard to get to. Buy a filter cup, special cup fits over end of filter, snap in 3" 3/8" extension, use 3/8" ratchet to remove.

do it with your hands.... you know... just kinda reef on it... that's what i do... hasn't leaked a drop since.. on either of my changes so far..

500 bucks for an oil change!!!!!!!!!! wtf. what kinda currency is this? damn u got ripped off. oil change around my way cost only 20 US dollars.
just do it the way i told u if u have no other way of doing it.
