Hi,
Just got an 04 Tacoma double cab and want to get both racks and a shell. My problem is that I often carry a 20' outrigger canoe or surfski and need a lot of space between the racks. As I see it my options are as follows: 1. racks mounted on shell only 2. racks mounted on cab only 3. one rack on cab, one on shell 4. custom rack or lumber rack I had planned to use option 3 because neither option 1 or 2 gives me enought space between the racks but have been told that as one drives the bed/shell will roate w/r to the cab and possibly break my fragile 20' racing boat. is this true??? Any other ideas on how to make this work?? Thanks! |

Thanks but this doesn't really help
Thanks for the response. I am pretty well versed in both Thule and Yakima systems but there is not a discussion on either the Thule or Yakima site (that I could find) that discusses carrying very long items and/or mounting one set of racks on the cab and another on the shell.
I guess my primary question is: does the bed/shell really rotate or move withg respect to the cab, and if so, how much? Thanks agian for your response! ...Roger |

Re: Roof rack for dbl cab w/ shell for long items
My friend has racks mounted on just the shell of his Tundra. He carried a conoe over dirt roads for about ten miles no problems, but this was a cheap rental boat designed to not break when abused.
