AC - 97 Explorer

AC on the 97 will not cut in until I plug the low limit connector in and out a few times then only stays on for 10-15 mins. Does this mean recharge time?

Before you do the plug dance, does the compressor constantly click, trying to come on? If so, then yes it's low on freon. To be absolutely certain pick yerself up a gauge and test the pressures, following the instructions that come with it.

Compressor does not click but can hear the engine surging. After I wiggle the plug a bit the compressor comes on, but after driving for a while the AC cuts out again.
