Will I need a new rear-end, drive shaft and tranny?
I have asked this before but I never got a straight answer, so I will ask again because I almost have the money for my upgrades. I am putting in a the LT4 conversion on my LT1 (heads, cam, manifold), 52mm throttle body, 383 stroker kit, Hooker long tube headers w/ cut-outs, and 3.73 gears. I am figuring this will have 400 rear wheel HP. The question I have is will the stock rear end, auto transmision, and drive shaft be strong enough to handle all this power, or should I be saving to replace those too?

Re: Will I need a new rear-end, drive shaft and tranny?
well, if you are planning on a 383, do not use the hotcam! It is hardley large enough for a 350, let alone the extra cubes of the 383. I also do not see a hot cam car getting 400RWHP (sorry, not saying it is not possible, but I have not seen it). If you do end up making over 400RWHP and have a manual tranny, a rear end will be right around the corner. I would not waste the money on 3.73's in the rear if you are planning on that kind of HP with an auto or a manual. Use the money for a 12 bolt of 9". Auto tranny will need a good stall to help the cam out, and having it built by somebody that knows what they are doing will not hurt at all. I honestly have no idea about a stock steel DS and that power though, that one I am lost on.

Do you have any idea what the best cam (that will smog) to get with this set-up would be?
