Please someone help me out I am the one that had the 2002 Elantra that the engine blew up at only 27000 miles and the car was just 1 year 7 months old well thay finally repaired the engine and the valves were still clattering and it does not have much power when going up hills we took it back and was told the parts just need to break in give it until our next oil change well done that and still have the same problems took car back to shop and now we are told its because Hyundia shop did not do the oil change and we did not have a Hyundia oil filter put in when we had the oil change and thats why we still have the clattering and no power when it goes up hills. Does this sound correct or a little off the wall? I have talked to a few other machanics and thay tell me it sounds more like the timing and I had a machanic to listen to it and he said it sounds awfull that it has acsessive valve clattering and there is something wrong. Whats your opinion?

Re: Please Help 2002 Elantra
My clattering was actually the belts. I do not have Hyundia change my oil. As long as you have reciepts you should be fine.
Find another dealership. Jason |

Re: Please Help 2002 Elantra
Fred, Your too negative. I too had issues with the first dealership I went to. But after going to another dealership I was serviced professionally and had all my complaints/issues resolved completely. They even had their Dent Wizard guy push out a minor door ding, no charge.
I do not like dealers myself, in fact I believe there's a reason why they are often called stealers. Don't get me wrong I'd never spend the premium for a dealer routine service, but for warranty work? Please....Don't descriminate against all the other dealers because you can't find one worth a $hit in your area. I posted the Hyundia Consumer Service phone number not to long ago in another post. These people are great. I find it hard to believe that they wouldn't help you or said something stupid like they don't regulate the dealerships. Try calling them without firing your 40 calibers. I have found that people in the CSR realm don't talk to you straight, if at all, when their under attack. Since switching dealerships I am completely happy, A coilpack recently went out on my ride, took less than a day to get the part but they still rented me a car so I could get to work. Jason |

Re: Re: Please Help 2002 Elantra
I'm sure that Typhoid Annie was really a nice person if you got to know her but I'd keep my distance on general principles. When multiple people lie to me from the same organization and I've had service problems in two states and at 6 dealers in those two states I begin to question doing further business with that company. That's just me. To date the dealer never did anything for me that didn't cost me a dime. When I had a repair at Valley Stream Hyundai in Long Island New York where my shifter cable broke it was covered by warranty. Unfortunately, I lived in NJ at the time and it took them 3 days to fix it. I said while they were at it to give me an oil change. They charged me over $40 for that oil change. I recently had the bait and switch trade in deal almost played out on me at a stealer in NY. For me 3 strikes and your out and we're well beyond that here. The cars are decent by all accounts mine included. You may have found the penultimate Hyundai service center but upon my experience I think they stink. I feel very positive about this feeling though if that helps. Their is no negativity or emotion in this, just an analytical assessment of the facts having owned the car for 4-1/2 years and having dealt with Hyundai on a few too many occassions for my liking. They may indeed be a good car and worth the money but the resale is terrible with a capital T, I wouldn't want to deal with whatever friendly people you spoke of as my experience with same was negative. Thanks for giving me the benefit of the doubt as to my demeaner when speaking with them. I usually don't chew off a Customer Service Reps head as I do IT Customer Service for a living. But I can recognize when someone is lazy and doesn't give a shit pretty well now after 44 years and that was the case there. As it was I didn't have to pursue it further and won't be in a position to in the future. You can call me negative but I assure you I'm positively not going to deal with Hyundai for anything unless the engine falls out and is still covered by my warranty. Don't worry - Be Happy

Re: Re: Re: Please Help 2002 Elantra
Your right Fred, I don't know you. But being a computer guy, you know as well as I that email/posts are not direct/personal communications and it is easy to miss the tone/intent of the post. What I read into something someone else may not. What I read is that you are very pi$$ed at the stealer and appear to hold a very solid opinion towards all of them as a result. I may have been mistaken before, if so I apologize.
The key to me saying "Too Negative" is the fact that more often than not, replies to posts can turn into a soapbox. And this is fine...But...the soapbox should come after answering the guys original question. This Xray...sorry UpRay guy still doesn't have a consensus opinion from any of us on what to do about his car...Which I believe was his intent to find a solution. The string of responses that followed didn't fix his situation only highlighted that the stealers suck. No one, including myself, posted anything technical that he could actually look for. Oop's...Better get off my soapbox, Jason

You're right Jason. This guy needs more than my diatribe on Hyundai dealers right now. I stand corrected. Hope the guy gets his car fixed and all wherever he goes. All the best. Peace.

You may want to check Hyundai Webtech and look up any TSBs on the Sonata and see if there is a previous problem. Hey nippjas I agree Hey PhlatulentPhreddy While its true that the marjority of the complaints not only in this forum but in countless others are about dealership and service techs not doing their job correctly there are good ones out there. I do not see anything wrong with Hyundai Valley Stream charging you 39 for the oil change. You did ask them to do it. That I know of every Hyundai Service center charges for their oil changes. As for other services, I have my vehicle serviced at Hyundai Valley Stream, cause after searching and using countless others service centers in the NY area, they seemed to be one of the better ones in terms of service. Now I am curious to know why is it that you had it serviced at Valley Stream when you live in NJ. I originally bought my vehicle at Difeo Hyundai in Jersey city and their service department is considered one of the best. In fact their main service person at Difeo was nominated best Hyundai service tech two years running. But unfortunently they are too far away from me. I would think Defeo would be closer to you.

That is not a bad idea, you can if you want too, but I would suggest to start the thread in the Non-Specific section.
I can see that thread getting long, lord knows I have a few stories to tell myself.

Re: Please Help 2002 Elantra
Valley Stream is where it broke down on the LIE. $40 is too much for an oil change anywhere and we're talking 2 years ago here. Bought car at Brad Benson in NJ. I would suggest avoiding them unless you have a liberal supply of grease.
