port and polished heads

Can anyone explain the term "port and polished heads," what exactly do they do and the price range???

Aproxamatley 600 - 800 dollars depending on what stage you go. All it is ...is that they grind down the metal where the ports meet. The heads have intake ports and exaust ports, the machine shop merely makes these ports larger and makes the intake ports match the intake manifold ports right now they are smaller. and it gives you about 25-50 hp depending on severity

No problem oh and by the way if you have a 5.3l dont port your own heads get some from the 99+ LS1 camaro if you need help getting them let me know i can find em fast and pretty cheap considering they go for a little over 500bucks
