wiring problem on 1979 firebird

I have a 79 firebird and when i turn my headlights and or wipers on the gages go haywire. I have been told that the problem is a ground does any one have any ideas on how i can test that. Or reground the harness? Please help

First check the obvious. Disconnect the hot wire (+ve) from the battery. Follow the other battery connector wire (-ve) and make sure there no corrosion and a good connection at both ends. Next locate the ground strap from the motor to the body frame and do the same. If there's corrosion and/or a loose connection on any of them remove the connection, clean wire connector and connection point, use a dielectric grease and reconnect firmly. Be prepared to replace corroded nuts, bolts and battery connectors and frayed wires. While at it now check the hot wire connectors at both ends before reconnecting it. Healthy supply wire connections are essential before doing any other electrical checks.
