2000 Suburban - Intermittent Starting Problems
Hello,
I have a 2000 Suburban (71,000 mi). I have been experiencing starting problems lately. At times, when I start the truck for the first time it will crank but won't start up. If I try to start it up a second time, it starts up without any problems. Could anyone please advise me what to check for. A friend of mine, thought it might be the fuel filter, so I'm going to give that a try first. Thank you in advance. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thankfully...PC |

1 of 2 things are happening when you attempt to start your vehicle without success. Either you're not getting fuel pressure or spark. Fuel pressure is the easier one to detect. When you get in the truck to start it, turn the key ON but do not start it. Do you hear a Hi pitch whine/Humming noise? If you do, that is your fuel pump. Chances are, you then have fuel pressure. It will last for a few seconds, then stop. The spark problem will be a little more involved to find. You need to catch it when it doesn't start and manually check for it. Disconnect a plug wire and check it. A Tech II would be helpful. Could just be a bad connection somewhere...
