HELP, trouble with DeVille
I have a 1989 DeVille love it, but having a problem:
My computerized fuel gauge, and my heater gauge is showing a "c" then turns to a "d" and the heater blower is blowing, but it is set on Off. the yellow service engine light is on. I disconnected the battery cable overnight is hopes to reset, but it didn't work. Does anyone have any clue to what my problem is?? Thank you Nancy |

Re: HELP, trouble with DeVille
It may need to go in the garage. Battery cables may need to be cleaned, or it could be an alternator problem.

Re: HELP, trouble with DeVille
Have a garage scan for ECM trouble codes, for the 'check engine' light. As for the blower, many of the '80's electronic climate control units seem to develop a mind of their own. My Caddy does the same thing and it's tough to track down. You might have to swap the entire in-dash electronic unit with one from another car, from an auto diamantlers.

Re: HELP, trouble with DeVille
I'm sure the 89 is not far from the 87 in this...
A really neat thing. The Environmental Control Module also acts as a diagnostic unit. It will tell you which error codes have happened and it can also tell you temperatures, output levels to solenoids and relays and many other things. I purchased a repair manual for my DeVille off EBay and it tells the key-codes and how to do everything. I first found out by borrowing a manual from my local dealership. They don't work on too many 87s anymore, so they were willing to let me have it for a while and even copy pages (before I realized I should give up and just buy my own). Maybe try this approach before you take it in for costly diagnostics? Hope that helps some... Quote:
