93 Escort 1.9L Ran Out of Oil

The oil pan on the engine received a severe blow which caused the oil to start leaking out while the engine was running. Before the oil leaked out all of the way the engine quit. We have replaced the pan and the oil. The engine turns over just fine and it appears to have compression, although we haven't measure it, but it won't start. Getting spark at the spark plug tips. Fuel seems to be getting into the cylinders. Are there any sensors or computer resets that I need to make? Does the engine shut down by itself if it senses a loss of oil volume or pressure?

Had escort run out of oil because shop didn't tighten filter down. What happened was that the cam stopped turning thus taking out timing belt. Removed timing cover to find problem, loosened cam bolts enough to turn cam. Poured oil on cam bearings, retorqued cam, turned it with wrench to assure free movement, replaced timing belt, now fires & runs good.

The problem did turn out to be timing belt related. It was replaced and things are back to normal.
