|
Need help with rear drums.
I'm having trouble taking the rear drums off for a brake job on a 2000 Grand AM SE. Parking brake is off, tried banging with a hammer to no avail. Any suggestions???

 hooray for rear drums.try getting some penetrating oil, and just start spraying. around the hub and the studs are the main places, but also spray around the inside a little as well; it can't hurt. Then, get a bigger hammer. Ive seen a ten-pound sledge used on some obnoxious drums before. and if you don't want to risk breaking them (highly unlikely anyway) just take it to a shop

Take the wheel off and hit the drums with a mallet theyl come off on there own , theres nothin holding them on cept the wheel. If its stubborn you gotta hit it harder (use a rubber mallet) wiggle the hell out of it side to side till it loosens. DONT BREATH IN THE DUST!!! It could KILL YOU!!! Be carefull not to have the car fall on you too.
