Instuments go crazy when i start car

Hi
I just bought a 2003 Grand am and every time i start the car all the guages go all the way to the right then when it starts they fall back all the way to the left then they level out !!!!is this normal fo the Grand am to do this ? can some one let me know thanks

....thats what they're supposed to do

they do that for mostly cosmetics and looks, but also to just test the full range of the needles. a lot of cars do this

thanks but i have never seen or heard of this before ..I hac a 200 malibu and it didnt do that
