lude running too rich
hey guys. my 95 vtec prelude is running rich all of the sudden. it started when my car began to idle up and down non stop when i was at a standstill. i cant remember the name of it but a valve on my throttle body backed off of the threads and was letting too much air in. i screwed it back in and now it is idling fine. it is running too rich now though. there is no way that i know of to adjust the air fuel mixture because it is all computer controlled. there is a idle speed control on the throttle body but it doesnt change the mixture. and ideas anyone? please help!

Okay wait. First off, I need to know how you've determined that it's running too rich. And second, are you using Bosch +4 plugs.

i am always smelling fuel now when i start off from a stop. my whole back bumper is covered in soot. and yes i am using bosh +4 meybe thats lean. i always forget which is which lol.

check the tips of your spark plugs. a little white is good, but if it's too white, that means you're running too lean. better too rich than too lean. black is rich obviously. keep in mind hondas tend to run very rich at idle.
how many miles on your car? and what octane of fuel are you using? a list of any mods would help too.

i have about 130 thousand miles on it. i just have a short ram intake and an exhaust system. those have been on my car for a couple years but it just recently started running rich. i will check my plugs. someone else was telling me something about the bosch +4 plugs causeing something like that. im wondering if getting a air fuel controller would combat this problem. i was wanting to get one anyway. i figured i would go ahead and get one that controlls vtec engagement also. my question was, since my computer obviously thinks everything is normal, will everything on the air fuel controller get offset also or does it get its readings seperately

ok i will try that. i wonder if trying a new o2 sensor would do anything.
