Question VG30DE hoses

I cant work it out. There is a black hose on either side of the engine behind the timing belt cover but in front of the intake collectors. They stick out either side of the engine below the throttle bodies and look like they go into some kind of reservoir or something right behind where the intake camshaft sprockets are. I've read through the nissan service manual but I cant work out what they're for. I have a pretty good feeling that they're oil supply lines for the timing belt sprockets or something, but I dont want to connect anything up that i shouldn't..
Could they be related to the turbos? Are they coolant lines for the throttle bodies? Can anyone help me out here!?

Thanks,
-Mike

Re: VG30DE hoses

Your car is a TT im guessing?

Is it possible they are EGR? In which case there are just two 10mm bolts on each arm.

It stumpted me too for the longest time... More info please!

I doubt its the egr, the egr valve in on the back.

My engine is supposed to be a NA (the wreckers told me it was) but who knows, it could be a VG30DETT without the turbos.. Sometimes its worth taking what wreckers say with a grain of salt.

I'm thinking it could be the PCV supply lines... In which case it would make sense they stick out near the throttle bodies.
I'll take some photos when i get around to it.

Please note that this engine hasn't been started yet, so they may or may not be vital to the proper running of it, or at least need to be clogged up so as not to spew oil/coolant/fuel all over my engine bay when i get the engine running.

Re: VG30DE hoses

The EGR ARMS... Not the valve, the arms snake underneith the plenum RIGHT behind the TB's... About 2 inches back.

oh, right..
well i dont think its the EGR arms because these tubes are just rubber, and i doubt they could be transporting exhaust anywhere. They aren't behind the throttle bodies either, just underneath them.

Thanks anyway,
-Mike

Re: VG30DE hoses

Ok took a look at my Zed...

Right on the TB's there are two silicon hoses. One set on the inside, one on the outside.

The one on the inside leads back underneith the plenum (about 3inches of silicon, then it goes into metal) the hose that connects is on the back.

The is another one on the outside of the TB's, that leads straight into another port hole on the plenum.

When I tore down my plenum, I recall taking the hose off the back first. Try that.

Ok, finally got some pics of these hoses:

Any ideas on what they should be connected to? It looks like they should hook straight up to the intake piping, perhaps pcv inlets? I want to find out for sure before I hook them up. Cant find any info whatsoever in the workshop manual.

This is from another vg30de I had lying around with no intake manifold. on it.

samhain is right, just got inside from checkin out my z. they lead straight into the intake tubing. hook up your hard intake pipe to your throttle bodies and u should see exactly where they lead into it at.

Re: VG30DE hoses

Thats the thing, i dont have the intake piping.. 8)
However, this does help me out. Thanks.
I was thinking they'd be the PCV inlets, but now I can connect them up and be sure that im not going to get 5L of oil dumped into my cylinders.

Thanks for all your help!

Good luck Mike...

And where are you located? I've been searching for a VG30DE lately.

Australia. If you can fit the VG30DE in your hand luggage on the plane, then I have no probs selling it to you.
I'm actually looking to get rid of my VG30E. Its complete but its got a shitty AAC that I couldn't be bothered replacing. I can't find anyone down here who wants it though.. z31s would have to be the rarest car down here.

Not where I live (California, USA)! I just seen a decrepit old hag driving a Z31 Turbo... sad! What a waste! I was tempted in getting her number and woo-ing her to handover the title! Damn-it... I want a Z31 or old 240Z for my next project!

I'd love to grab a 280zx and throw a turbo 20b in it.

Re: VG30DE hoses

280zx with a Wankel... Hmmmmm *idea*

We built a four-rotor Wankel out of 2 13B's.
We had to have the machine shop machine an eccentric shaft, and connection rods. Then we custom built exhaust and intake manifolds.

It had four Mitsubishi turbos bolted onto it.

It was SICK.

... Never would run of course. But it sure looked nice sitting on the table

And 1viadrft... Sounds good bro.
