it is very easy, you just take off your cluster hood, 5 screws i believe, then you take out your cluster 4 more screws, you will need to tap into the wire that if i remember correctly is blue with a white stripe.

Re: can you put a tach in a 4 door dx

Sorry to jack your thread, but I was wondering if a Si Cluster w/ tach is a direct swap from standard cluster w/o tach. I am assuming it is...

Also, are the Cluster's interchangeable between 88-91? The Shape of the "Cluster Hood" seems to be dirfferent, more round on the newer ones, but can you use say an 88 cluster on a 91 dash if you use the 88 hood as well?

I think the 88-89's are different from the 90-91's. Not 100% positive but I think so.

Re: can you put a tach in a 4 door dx

ok, you CAN swap an Si cluster directly as long as u use the same sub-generation. meaning....if you have an 88-89 use the cluster from an 88-89 if you have a 90-91 use the cluster from a 90-91.

if you dont mind the hassle, you can rewire 88-89 to 90-91 , and vice versa, but you will need the harness lead from the other car, the cluster and the cluster hood, 88-89 clusters are more squareish, and 9-91 clusters are a tad more rounded.

as far as tapping an aftermarket tachometer to your wiring you will need to tap it into the blue wire with a white stripe, as i stated above.

This was my very first post on this board...asking about installing a tach. - - nice! - welcome

I cut a hole in my firewall and ran to the blue wire near the dizzy...but it's the same one that's behind the cluster. I also needed the hole in the firewall to run fog light wires, so no biggie.
