bad brakes at only 9700 miles

i have had minivans for years and they are notorious for brakes going- however, at only 9700 miles? - is this unusual or common?

Did you go through a lot of dirt or mud? Sometimes it gets in the brake pads n wears it out quicker making it overheat (i think anyway, don't quote me on that lol). Maybe you just got a pair of defective break pads. 9700 sounds a bit early, but anything could be possible. If the brakes go out early again, it might be another hidden problem.
