Lowering

Hey Guys

Anyways, I am getting into modeling again and I am currently working on a revell civic hb. I am thinking about cutting the wheel wells so I can "slam" the ride. Has anyone ever done it before? Also, if i cut the wheel wells, exactly how much of my engine bay will be missin? What can i do to cover it back up?

Well, if you have ever seen under the hood of one of these slamed vehicles, and they have in fact removed the wheel wells, you will see exactly what the engine bay is missing...just the wheel wells, and they move anything that may have been bolted to the wheel wells to the firewall, or engine bay sides. A way to cover this up is to fabricate new larger fenderwells that basically come all the way up to the hood opening. If you search on google, you should be able to see what I am talking about, some of them cover the engine aswell, and are painted with murals.

Re: Lowering

I agree! U will have just that......missing wheel wells! On the real cars its easy to move everything on the revell civic hb, you will notice that there are 2 different plastic pieces. The black undercarage, and the white engine bay detail attatched to the interior tub. If you cut just the section from the black, it will not really be enough to get the car to the ground. Not sure how "LOW" you want the car. In order to achieve ground level, you will have to cut out the engine bay detail on the interior tub. The other option is to cut the wheels and tires. Put the tire on the rim, picture the whole thing divided in to 1/4 pieces and cut one of those quarter pieces away.

Thanks guys. Yes, I have been thinking if I should cut the wheels instead or just the engine bay. I dont exaclty want the car to the ground, but I want it lower than stock. I am just working on the body now, so I have time to decide what I will do.

Re: Lowering

you should be able to dremel most of the wells away, then a lil putty here and there if even necessary (which I wouldn't even worry about)

Re: Lowering

i am in the process of finishing my civic and i lowered it by cutting out the fender wells out slightly past the bar line thing then slammed it by heating up the axles while glued to the chassis and then bent it up as far as i needed it but beware over heating will melt the plastic too much and break easily

Thanks guys. The HOW TO made by vric is more for Tamiya models than revell though.
