Re: max tire size

I have 275/60/R15 on the rear of my truck. I don't know what the backspacing of the rim is, but I have about 1" clearance to the frame ( and they don't stick out past the wheel well opening.
The backspacing of the rim is the key to getting a bigger tire on your truck.

Re: max tire size

So what do I have to do to get better back spacing? I've just herd of this today discount tire said something about it. (this'll be my first truck to put over sized tires on and jack up) does it like stick the rims out a little farther or something?

I had a 1996 s-10 I had it lowerd 4" in the front 3" in the back, my rims had 3.5" back spacing. The tires were 275-60-15, the tires rubbed so I had to put air shocks to stop it from rubbing. A friend of mine has a 1986 S-10 with 4.5" backspacing that fits fine. If I were you I would go with the 4.5". Before I lowerd mine I ran 225-70-15 up front (225-60-15 after)

My rims are 7" wide w/ 4" backspace and I use 225/70/15. I could of went with 235/70R15 with no problem. I could also go with a 3" backspace to widen the stance. I have seen 225/75R15 on a 2wd but they look a little stuffed. A 28" tall tire would be as big as I would go on a stock 2wd.

Might I suggest 2" lift then you can easily fit 235/75R15 (or a 30" tire) on all 4. It will look like a stock 4wd. 2" suspension lift can be bought from Rough Country for $295 or piece it together from Ebay.

2" body lift wouldnt be too bad either. Around $75

My stock ones were 15x6. Backspacing? I would say 4".

Re: max tire size

do you all think it would be possible to get a 245/65 or a 255/60 on the stock rims?

You should be able to, I had a pair of 275-60 on 7" rims and they fit fine.

They will fit but will not look as wide as they would on a 8" rim. Remember just because they fit does not mean they look right.
