Re: lighter z?

umm, almost everything on the z is there for a reason. the hatch, spare tire, ummm, not much else. a carbon fiber hood weighs more than the stock hood, so that defeats that purpose.

i took the spare tire and jack out of mine but it prolly isnt worth it. the jack is made out of aluminum i think. and its all in styrophoam so it weighs next to nothing. spare tire is reall the only thing that weighs anything and it doesnt weigh much. AC compressor i have heard of removing and power steering but to me neither of those are worth it so i suggest just leaving them. also the driveshaft can make a difference. http://www.z1motorsports.com
they make an aluminum drive shaft that is supposed to shave 0.2 seconds off teh quarter mile. im pretty sure i read that on there site somewhere. i was told not to put an aluminum driveshaft on my car because they will break and half and go through the floor board. they also make a steel driveshaft though.

Re: lighter z?

I was told somewhere that u could take the HICAS out, and that would reduce weight, but i really dont know much bout that, that may help or not.

Re: lighter z?

HICAS (HIgh Capactiy Actice Steer) is only on Twin Turbo models.

And it cannot be taken OUT.

It can, however, be immobilzed. The kit is about $375.

Only thing I could think is this. If the car is a race application, gut the interior to death.

Take out the AC condensor, and thats about all you can get away with in the engine bay. Other than the plenum cover, with will save about .1 lb's.

I would suggest removing the center console, and replacing it with an aluminum panel... Just so something is there.

You can replace the windows with Lexan all the way around. Saves quite a bit

Also, if you have nuts... Try this:

Find a wrecked Slicktop. Chop off its roof, and swap it onto your car. It is a tough job, it must be done FAST. If you are going to do this, have everything measured out and in place before hand. Leave the roof off for no more than 2 minutes. NO MORE. Otherwise the car will total itself.

There are plenty of ways to save weight... Just be creative.

Re: lighter z?

CF T-tops would be nice....but I bet there is no such thing for Z31s...we get the shaft on most of the cool aftermarket stuff.
