Question painting a sub

I have a XPlod sub woofer, red. Heres a picture of it.

http://www.sonystyle.com/intershopr...h_box_image.jpg

The interior of my car is grey with some areas of blue that i've painted. So now i want my sub to match everything else. My question is, is it possible to paint the subwoofer blue to cover up that red?

I dont want it to mess with the sound quality or anything though.

Re: painting a sub

It will sound muddyer than it already does cause you are adding mass to the sub. The sub is a POS. Just go buy a blue sub if you want it to match. I am sure you can find one cheap that will sound the same as the xplods

because the sub cone doesn't move as a single mass (it flexes in concentric circles) the paints would chip off. You might be able to dye it.

Re: painting a sub

Lexan paint will flex. It's made for the inside of clear RC car bodies. It will have a flat finish though so it will need a coat of clear. My concern is what would the paint do to the rubber if an accident occurs? I could see it turning brittle and cracking.

Somethings are better left alone...but I agree with ToyTundra...if he is going to do it at least do it right.

Re: painting a sub

As long as you get it perfectly symmetrical you can do it, if you get it off you can throw off the balance of the sub and cause the voice coil former to start to rub. It will also add mass to the cone, lowering the resonant frequency and efficiency.
