Fuel rail recal and fuel pump preasure regulator
For those of you that have recieved your recal notice for the stainless steal fuel rails you'll be pleased to know that you will also be getting a new fuel pump preasure regulator along with the rails. The old unit isn't compatable with the new rails. I was just about to buy a new FPPR but found out about the replacement when I had the rails changed. Before the work was done I found that I had occasions where my 97 didn't start as fast as it used to. Now it's back to normal.

I just checked the invoice for my '96.
The only line items were for the rail kit and a seal kit. No mention of a pressure regulator. In fact, I asked the service technician when I dropped off the car if I should consider replacing it at the same time - and he said it was not necessary. I would notice when it was time by harder starting symptoms - but it wouldn't leave me high and dry if I acted promptly. |

Re: Fuel rail recal and fuel pump preasure regulator
The fuel pressure regulator is NOT part of the recall, but the seals are part of the kit...

dealer did the fuel rail replacement yesterday. I checked the work & found that the stainless steel fuel rail has an integral fuel pressure regulator built into it, from now on in order to replace the FPR you will have to replace the fuel rail assembly, since it is brazed into the fuel rail.

recall
As you can see from the last post, the new rails include a intergrated FPPR. ONe other item that surprised me was that the mechanic that did my recall work also braided my new plug wires with plastic looming material and those were the plug wires that I changed myself a few days before. Nice guy!

Re: Fuel rail recal and fuel pump preasure regulator
The plastic conduit on the plug wires is part of the recall. The old fuel pressure regulator is re-used with new seals. The rail design is different, but the regulator is still serviced separately and is the same part number as before.

Bill V, Don't know where you got your information, but it is incorrect. Do you own an Aurora? Recall was done on my car(1996), I know the FPR is not replaceable, since it is completely brazed into the fuel rail assembly,I know this to be a fact because I have seen the rework, have you? My car did not get the spark plug wire harness protection!!??.

Disregard my last post. Bill V, I have rechecked & you are correct. The new fuel rail has a housing for the the FPR brazed into it, but it appears that the regulator has just been relocated into the new housing. Again my apologies, I should have looked under the hood again before responding.

when i first called the dealer, they said 95`s aren`t covered. then i called oldsmoblie to complain ,as i have had 5 of the lines rupture so far, and they called back after an inquiry & said that my car wasn`t built at the covered assembly plant, so they couldn`t do anything for me, even though i stressed that i had 5 lines rupture so far.
SEEMS OLDSMOBILE IS "STANDING BEHIND" ME, NOT THIER CARS! LOL!! |

I was told the same thing about my 95 that is squirting gas from a line right now by the service managers in my area. "Not covered". I called 1-800-442-6537 and talked to a woman named Darla (ext. 58186). She did some checking and got back to me a few minutes later to say that GM would replace it since the recall is pending for the 95's. She even called the dealer of my choice so the service manager would know what's going on. Called the dealer and was told to bring it in tues.7/6 to get it fixed.
I don't know who you called, but if everyone that has had this problem calls maybe GM will issue the recall for everyone. |

Re: Fuel rail recal and fuel pump preasure regulator
Your car wasn't built at the covered assembly plant? That's hilarious, seeing how all Auroras were built at the Lake Orion, Michigan assembly plant (where my mother-in-law used to work before relocating to Wisconsin :-)
