HELP ENGINE NOISE !((( COUGAR I have a 1999 Cougar v6 that has a terrible tapping noise coming from the sided of the engine at idol it gets louder and when I turn the a/c on it gets even louder but once I put my foot on the gas the noise goes away, mostly. I had a mechanic look at it and he seems to think its the tensioner. I do not have an engine light on or any other sensors lighten up so the engine seems fine. The car has 80,000 miles on it and the dealer said that he has never had to change a timing chain on this type of car or this type of engine. ANY HELP OUT THERE???? |

Found the problem. I have two rod bearings that are bad and I will replace. The dealer wanted $400 for two parts that cost $32.00 so I had a local guy fix it. It will take about 2 hours labor plus a total of $75.00 for parts and new gaskets.
