auto VS. stick, could the auto win ?

Ok to start of with I now am the proud owner of a 97 ex civic 2 dr, BUT auto tranny. I would like to "have some fun with it" but first would like to beef up the drivetrain, starting with the tranny, first is it a good idead to get the torque converter first? ok second I need some personal experience here... I want the trans to shift faster and firmer HOW do I do this ??? I know on my old neon there are shift kits and I could choose for race and street use in side the car with a switch (awsome) now I found a electronic shifter called the "PTS shiftronic" has any one used this, is this only for cars that allready have the sports shifter (were you controll shifts on an auto by bumping it up or down). will it work on my civic, what all will be required for me to do ? what does this kit come with? here is a web page for the part I am looking at

http://www.levelten.com/store/impor..._shiftronic.htm

OK so If this dosent work I guess I have to get the springs and valves changed in my tranny.... some info would be greatly apreciated, and please dont start arguing witch way is better just give me the info and your personal experience/ opinion. Thank you all...

An automatic could very well beat a manual but it's the guy driving the stick who would have to have a good race shifting technique. Really depends on how well you know how to drive your car.

Also an auto is quicker off the line, but will not rev as high as someone with a manual. Also an auto is more consistent with times

Because you don't have to feather it you just step on the gas. It's only quicker off the line by like 1/2 second or so.

Re: auto VS. stick, could the auto win ?

CivicSiRacer is right. Autos LEAVE the line faster, but manuals have better LAUNCHES. If that doesn't make sense I'll try to explain what I mean.

As for the author, I drive an automatic as well so I feel your pain. As said earlier, it's gonna depend on the driver of the other car.

Re: auto VS. stick, could the auto win ?

I would think the stick would get a better launch because they could "pop the clutch" I can only power-brake soo much LOL, especially with my stock torque conveter. but other than the torque converter is there any way too help my tranny??

The site you saw that one...level 10...level 10 can build you a performance tranny...now how much will it cost, how long with it take...etc? I don't know, call them...but they can build up the tranny internals to yhandle power, improve the shift points etc.

Just call them up and ask, their number's on the site.

Re: auto VS. stick, could the auto win ?

Mmm...assuming both cars are equal, as in two civic EXs, the stick will leave the line faster. Why?

One will start pulling from idle. Less power.

The other will start pulling from whatever RPMS fit best, which is more power.
