What is it.?
You will need to post a photo. There are hundreds of fiberglass kit cars that are no longer built. Check out this page and tell us a little more about it. See-> http://www.1800vw.bizhosting.com/0.new_to.vws.htm

Does the engine have a spin on oil filter, the vans had one?

My first new car was a '68 VW bug and I also worked as a line mechanic at a VW agency way back then. No, the VW's of 1968 didn't have a spin-on oil filter, but only that almost worthless strainer screen on the drain plate.

Re: 68 Bug conversion
All beetles through all years only had the strainer on the drain plate. Speed153 said he thought it had a bus engine in it. The later model buses came with a type IV engine and they had external spin on oil filters. Somebody may have put one in.

A type IV engine would require a pretty big shoe horn to fit into a bug engine compartment.

Re: 68 Bug conversion
Not really, I am putting one into my 72 Super. All that is required is to adapt it to an upright fan. You can see how at www.massivetype4.com.

Wow, I stand corrected. Never seen anything like that before. Who sells the engines?

Re: 68 Bug conversion
Raby's Aircooled Technologies in Cleveland Georgia. You could just get an engine out of a Porsche 914 or 72 or later bus, rebuild it yourself and install it. Clark
