I just bought a 2002 stratus and the engine light won't turn off, the guy i brought it from said he had the problem from day one but nothing appears to be wrong with it after diagnostics....any ideas?

Angry Check engine light

I've had the same problem with a 1996 Stratus. I've been told it is due to a faulty EGR valve although I've past emissions tests without replacing this valve but now have been told the car will not pass until this is fixed. Can you verify if this is the case?

Re: 2002 Check Engine light

I had a light on mine in the winter, bad gas is my guess, I cleared it up by running a container of Techron through it. One application cleared the light and it went out on the way to the dealer. Mine may have been because it was during the winter on an extremely cold day ( everyone with newer cars had same problem same day)
My guess is a bad o2 sensor.
