Holley carb fills up #8 cyl

537.1

I have a 350 eng with a duel plane manifold with a holley 750 dbl pumper carb on it. I just bought it and I no this carb is over kill. I don't no anything about holley's and have always is the past had quadjets.

anyway my problem is i can't get it started so I pull plugs and my number 8 cyl dumps fuel out along with a couple other cyls I no the duel plane feeds different cyls.

Is there a needle and seat in this thing that might not be letting the fuel shut off and run down into my intake.

I did check the floats and adusted them down and left the inspection plugs off and cranked the engine and they did not over flow.

any thoughts

it sounds like there must be a gaseket that is shot or something. i dont like holleys to much. also just make sure that all the jets are in and everyhing is in place. did you try looking down throught the carb to see where whe gas is coming from. oh and also are you sure its gas and not watter or something.

Re: Holley carb fills up #8 cyl

Likely you have a blown power valve.
This valve opens when the intake vaccuum falls below 6 to 7 inches of vaccuum. It richens the mixture to compensate for the decline in vaccuum signal when you open the throttle.
(Q-jets use a similar principle with the needles that slide in and out of the jets with vaccuum.
These valves only blow if you get a strong backfire through the carb. However, if they do go, they make the carb run really rich, all the time, and fuel will leak inside. You can remove the primary float bowl and the metering block.
The valve simply screw into the metering block.
I like Hollys and own a bunch of them. They are very easy to tune and every component can be tuned for best performance.
They work very well if you get the right size and type, especially if you have a really wild camshaft. (something a Q jet won't do well)
However, the Q jet and the Carter AFB (Edelbrock) are more sophisticated carbs and provide better fuel economy in most circumstances, with the same power.

I had a Holly once. It kept flooding cuz the needle was sticking open. Junk that thing and get a edelbrock or carter. I agree with majic rat, holly is good if you need to dump lots of fuel down it...

I think Holley is s***. I have junked about 5. Worked fine for 6 months, but that seems to be the majic number. Like the other guy said, Carter, and Edelbrock are good carbs. Sorry buddy but ya got a hunk o' junk.
