A/C compressor replacement

Can anyone tell me the correct way to flush out an A/C system of dirt, sludge, oil, etc. So it will be clean and dry before I put a new compressor on my 94 Grand Prix. I Have a flush gun, just need to know what would be a good solvent, or is there a better way to clean the system. I have read about so many do's and don'ts that it has me where it would better not to put the compressor on there at all, and forget it. I would hate to ruin a new compressor.

Re: A/C compressor replacement

Usually you would use a special oil that is used to clean AC systems. You need to get it at a refrigeration supplier. Don't use any solvent that is not rated for air conditioning systems as it will do damage that you will not be able to repair short of total replacement. There is also a filter that is located inside the dryer that needs to be replaced. You should only touch it with pliers and soak it in refrigeration oil before reinstalling it. If you are not familiar with AC systems you may be better off taking the parts to a garage and having a qualified technician do the work for you.
