Need front brakes BAD!

I really need new front brake pads on my 96 Z28. One of the mechanics at a local tire shop was telling me about new ceramic brake pads that are supposed to be really good and don't leave nasty brake dust all over the wheels. He even said that's what the Highway Patrol use. I thought about getting those, but they're $60. Anyone have any special recommendations?

Re: Need front brakes BAD!

ive heard of em, havent tried em. but less brake dust, im a fan of that the only thing with the ceramic brake pads is sometimes they squeel more than regular pads, the Z06 corvetteshave that problem, they use a harder compound brake bad that makes more noise, people bring the cars in complaining but theres nothing we can do. regular vettes dont have that problem.

i put bosche ceramic pads on mine, definetely less brake dust... dont know about the squealing.. i havent heard any yet... but my right rotor needs to be replaced. it has some big ass grooves.
they go for around $60 in auto parts stores, less if u try the junkyard. wat about carbon fiber? are those any good? or metallic?

you're overpaying at 60, and rule of thumb, never go with best/most expenive break pads, go with 1 down, the best have a bunch of metallic, which equals annoying queaking

Re: Need front brakes BAD!

honestly, GET A 98+ BRAKE CONVERSION! no matter what you do, the 93-97 brakes will still not be very good. I could not believe the difference when I put the bigger brakes on the car.

A good rule of thumb is if the pads dust a lot, then they are working good and biting good into the rotors (or the rotors need to be turned...LOL)

Yeah, they started squealing last week and now it's pretty bad. I need new pads IMMEDIATELY so I'm heading off to O'Reilys tomorrow to get some.

Re: Need front brakes BAD!

I have some LT1 pads I will GIVE you if I can find them today. you pay shipping! I think I still have them. Just save the money to buy a LS1 uprgrade ($200)! Send me an Email at [email protected] and remind me to look for the pads, I am pretty sure I still have some somewhere.

I just put some Wagner pads on today. I ended up paying $40 for them. It was either those or the super cheap kind at O'Reilys.

Super cheap is my middle name ... so what if you have to replace them 4 or 5 times more often ... there cheap.
