Bad or going bad turbo?

96 spyder GST 4G63 stock turbo... go to cardomain page for full list of mods..... I have been getting oil in my intake... IC to throttlebody... not in great amounts but enough that the intake manifold is getting carboned up... Is this a sign that the turbo is on its way out? I still run about 6-7 second 0-60 and the factory boost guage still boosts up. I did put in a fuel filter in the line going from the valve cover to where the BOV dump tube is and no oil is collecting there... Any help would be greatly appreciated...

The lines that go to your stock intake (PCV/VC) will leave oil as you described, enough to where it's wet and dirty. If those are still hooked up, you don't have a problem.

I'll agree and say its probably fine. When you have ad oil seals you usually know it. HEre is a pic of my M14 that is leaking oil like a champ, 3rd pic down:

BTW the fact that your factory boost gauge is working means nothing about your turbo's condition. It isn't a true measure of boost, just an interpolation of what your boost should be. You should pick up an aftermarket boost gauge for $30 (used)...you will definitely get good use out of it.

Thanks for the info.... I know I need A real boost guage cause I have a MBC just wating to be put in.... The PCV isn't getting a lot of oil through it I just don't know where the oil is coming from. I just don't like the fact that it's getting into the intake mani and carboning it up... I have loss of power from it and I know everyone will agree that loss of power SUCKS..he he kinda like getting married!!!!!LOL Thanks!!

I do not think that the turbo is the problem, for sure...its going to suck in anything that comes its way thru the intake housing. This is most definitly an issue with seals or pipes pre-turbo. Oil in your IC pipe? Thats wierd...maybe its grease and mud-crap from the road if you hit a puddle, or just moisture build-up...?

It is very common to have oil in your IC pipes, in your intercooler, BOV, throttlebody, and intakne manifold. Stock cars always have it. My valve cover is vented to atmosphere, so I dont have a problem with this. ITs a lot harder to clean out a 24x12x3.5 FMIC than it is to clean out a stock SMIC

Oil in the lines is common? Isn't that bad for the intake manifold and such? I am for sure positive that it is oil and not road crap or the like...

Yes, because the stock setup has oil lines spitting into your intake pipe, so they go ALL THE WAY through your intake, turbo, intercooler pipes, intercooler, TB, manifold... It's so oil doesn't spill onto the ground, which would make bunny huggers angry.

damn bunny huggers... ya i think it is normal too. i wuoldn't get too worked up over it. wait untill you have to literaly dump it out of your SMIC, then you may have a problem...

In fact its so normal, there is a vfaq for how to clean the oil out of your intercooler . Is even considered one of the "free mods" because it can make a noticeable increase in power (oil kills the heat transfer capacity of the IC).
