1996 Camaro interesting thread, help me out!

Hi all!!! I just registered up. Nice to see you all. I have a couple quick questions if anybody can help. First off I have a 96 Camaro. It has a 4l60e Transmission in it. with the 3.8l v6. I have a cool air intake, flowmaster exhaust, 40 seriers, and the iat sensor, which still stops me at 120. Anyways, my motors poopin' out on me. She's got 110,000 and she's been a real champ! I've beat her every day since birth and I still havn't changed anything accept the oil, brakes, tires, and reg. maintance. Well i'm smellin' oil (yeah, i know, fuck!) so I was wondering if anybody knows of some nice shops downtown (chicago) where I can get it rebuilt? Or should I get a rebuild kit for it online and bring it to somebody for rebuilding. Or should I got with a ls1 or lt1? I know both bolt up to the transmission I have already. Where and how much would be a good lt1/ls1 be ready to drop in? I heard when you upgrade from the 6 to the 8, it's ok for the first year or so, then the suspension goes to shit and a bunch of other things up front with the suspension. What should I do. I can't afford much more than 2g's while still being in college. I have some pictures of my baby from awhile ago up on my ftp, check it out. ftp://a:[email protected]:80

I got green neons, pioneer mp3 player radio, 4 6 1/2 infinity 3 way 300 watt speakers, the flowmaster 40 series exhaust, cool air intake, and an iat sensor.

Oh one more thing. Would this bolt up to my tranny, the 4l60e, http://www.paceparts.com/product.asp...1=240&3=209481 because it would be nice to toast some v8s and save on the gas, comes with supercharge and headers ect... all ready to go.

Re: 1996 Camaro interesting thread, help me out!

i would stick with the sixer, the swap to a V8 is a major headache, and youd be better off buying a camaro that actually came from the factory with Z28 badges. (sorry man, its a pet peave of alot of guys on here) but if you run the V6 that supercharged 3.8 is a great choice, im not sure about fitment, as that one is most likely set up for FWD and youd have to email paceparts and ask about it fitting in a camaro. although it probly wouldnt be that hard to swap all the supercharged parts into the block in your car. although its a bit on the pricy side. id hit up local junk yards to see if they have any of those wrecked gran prix's.

Thanks for the advice. Anybody else out there help is greatly appreciated. Why is the swap to the v8 a big headache if you can expand on that at all. IT's a bolt on to the tranny and there's plenty enough room, we all know that. Thnx. P.s. I read in some other threads that people are going with the 80 series flowmaster, don't do it, go with 40, i have that on my car and only 1 1/4 of the guys i talk to can tell it's not a 350, most are calling it a 305, must still be ok thnx again, ryan.

Yeah, I was going to make some, but how could i get it back on the computer where it's good enough to hear the rumble... maybe a small video clip, i could do that, and the neons look bad ass, my buds a mechanic and he put them on they way there supposed to be, no excess light outside the base bottom off the car, all the light stays under, even when it's raining, i'll get some pics of that up as well as a videos clip.

Re: 1996 Camaro interesting thread, help me out!

well, personally im running the 80 series and love it. maybe you just need a V8 to pull it off lol jk. as far as swapping in a V8, you need new motor mounts, new radiator, new hoses, new accessory mounts, belts, and the accesories themselves, new AC lines, (if you run AC) new heater core lines, new wiring harness, new fuel lines, new intake and air box, new ECM, new PROM, and probly a few other things im forgetting about.
