Cool 1st Aurora God do I love this car but have some questions!!

Hi all,

First off let me say that this is the bet forum that I have found on a subject that has actuly helped; so many of you guys are so helpfull!!! I have read all of the threads and all were very helpfull for most of my questions. But one I did not see is what is a good oil pressure at idle for a 98 4.0 W/128k I am running at 59 cold at startup but as the car warms up it will hold at 8psi. at idle. My buddy turned me on to this car and it was a good thing. His 95 4.0 w/150k holds at about 15psi, this sounds better. Is my pump going bad or could this be nothing at all!!!

Also I think my Aurora had an aftermarket sunroof installed it hasnt worked sence I got the car is it hard to drop the head liner to get to the moter?

Oh ya, With out being crude how do you diable the day time running lights for my car I must of missed this in the forum. (is it even possable for this year?)

Thanks for any help

minimum oil pressure at normal operating temperature at idle is 5psi.

minimum oil pressure at normal operating temperature at 2000 RPM is 35psi.

I think your fine. You never know what oil he has. Could be a heavier weight than yours is.

For DRL question, do a forum search for daytime lights and you'll see a thread that goes through an option.

I have a 98 as well. Last year at about 125,000 miles my oil pressure to dropped to about 8 PSI and I got some ticking while waiting in drive through lines and the like.
Pressure would be in the 60s and 70s at startup.
Oil Change at local quick stop cured problem and I have not had recurrance.

Today when it stops raining I get to change my radiator.
Common passenger side crack according to this forum.

Did find one At O'Riley's in Dallas for $218.00
They claim it is new. Was in box when I picked it up.

Had my 98 since 51,000. 135,000 now. One of my favorite autos ever.
Quiet, smooth and all the power needed.

I also have a '98. My pressure idles about 18psi whenhot. Have 65K on it. No problem with the tick though, yet. My AC comp is a bit noisy at idle, sorta waiting for it to blow apart. Other than that, I love this car.

maybe this thought will help you all....
the oil pressure sender is an electronic device and varies depending on multiple variables. old dirty oil settling inside it is one thing that makes a difference.
My car used to say 5 psi at idle (hot) with 125k miles. I got smart and put a live gauge on it and it read 17psi (hot). I bought a new oil pressure sensor and it reads 15psi at idle(hot). Trusting your dash gauge with high mileage on your car is not a good idea if you're worried about oil pressure. If it bothers you, get a new sensor, they're cheap. GM service manual does say 5 psi min at idle hot, but your engine would be close to crap if that were true... try a live gauge first you might be suprised.

also... the DRL issue
unplug the DRL resistor located in the drivers side fender by the air box. its white and U shaped.... voila! no DRl's
