Just to let everybody know I just got back from the Mazda Dealership here in Danvers, Massachusetts. Word on the street from the guys at Mazda that In 2006 the Mx-5 has an optional 13B package. For those who do not know what that is - it is a 2 Rotor Rx-7 Engine NON-Turbo

Sorry guys. From a mazda insider (not me but someone else) the rotary is not making it into the miata. And really, should we? I mean, part of the joy is revving the little 4 cylinders like mad. The rotary just doesnt make the noise or the feel that 1.8 (or the 2.0) makes. Not to mention the 05 mazdaspeed miata doesnt feel ANYTHIGN like the 06 miata 2.0.. OMG. so nice.

Re: Rotary Miata
it'd be a very interesting experiment
i've hear of some owners doing the 13b conversion and being extremely satisfied with the result. i've not had a chance to read any reviews regarding the new 06 mx5 2.0l aparently it weighs just a little more but has retained the 50/50 weight distribution. how do they (1.8 motor vs 2.0) fare? the mazdaspeed turbo mx5 was a bit under rated. it was running a overly safe and daily driver reliable 6psi. i would've thought the bp motor could've handle anywhere between 8-12psi of boost (not sure if the variable valve timing would have disagreed). that would've given the mx5 a little bit more credibility |
