Re: Paint help on camaro

Well, I don't know if I can help... I don't know the kit.

But you could try to carefully mask the parts that must stay chromed (by using masking tape or liquid mask) and spray over the part a layer of semi gloss black automotive paint, and then (I suppose) mask the part that must stay black, and add the body color where needed...

Not an easy work of masking/painting, but can surely be done, taking time... With surely taking great care when removing the masking tape, as it can easily take with it "pieces" of paint (chrome plating isn't a good primer at all!)

By the way: nice choice!

Re: Paint help on camaro

Can you take a pic of the actual part?

Perhaps you could paint the whole thing black, preferably with some soft paint like enamel, and then use some rubbing compound to carefully rub the paint off the areas you want to be chrome.

Re: Paint help on camaro

OK< so the grille is painted in primer. At this time, I would go ahead and use polish to rub down the primer on the high spots. Then mask off the grill and paint the body color. After that, maske off everything else and paint the grille. Use polish again and rub away any paint that got on the parts that should be chromed.

If you dont polish the primer down first, when you go to rub through the paint to the chrome, you will be able to see the primer at the edges where you rubbed it off.

Re: Paint help on camaro

If the grill was all in chrome you could have painted the whole thing body colour then using a small soft cloth, wipe away the paint on the chrome before it dried as the paint wont stick to chrome very well.
Then carefully masked off the grill to paint the black last.
