DANGIT! Transmission P.O.S. PLEASE HELP!

Hey. Guess what? I read on this forum that is you unplug your speedometer, then the speed governor will not work (=good, cause u can go faster!)

Well, I had that thing unplugged for like 2 months, and about a month ago, i got into a wreck... Did a 180 and was going backwards down a busy road while the car was still in drive. I reported that and also told them of a small problem of the car staying in SECOND gear after stopping at a stop light (not all the time, and usually after I was going relly fast a couple of seconds ago)... They took a look at it and said they found nothing...

Then two days ago, it lost it. It goes to first, then second, then.......
Then NOTHING! When it goes to shift to 3rd, it's like it forget what it was doing and just redlines like it's in Neutral. I have to take my foot off the gas and let it go back into 2nd gear. Sometimes it moves out of second, but im not sure if it moves into 3rd or maybe 4th, but if i dont have over drive on, it will NEVER go past 2nd.

Took it back to car repair place, and they sent me to tranmission place. Guy test drove my car and said it was because the speedo was unplugged and that my 3rd and 4th gears were "probablly just laying in the bottom of the transmission pan"

DOES THIS MAKE ANY SENSE???

I have since plugged the speedo back in and drove for about 5 miles, but it didnt make any difference...I'm going to try to drive for another week and see if the gear come back...I just have to drive slow though, because you can't go too fast with only 2 gears!

Also, it's a 1996 Maxima, so if you think I need a new transmission, or know where I can get one, CHEAP, or any other options I have, PLEASE HELP!

aren't you trying to sell your Maxima? I wouldn't post this on an open Maxima forum. I would say go with what the transmission place says. For a second opinion and work, if necessary, find a reliable and reputable place in your town and have them do a thorough check.

I would have never unplugged my speedometer in the first place. I think the governor is plenty high enough.

Lol... yeah, I was trying to sell it, but I dont thing anybody will want to buy it now, at least until I figure this out...

Thanks for the advice...what does everybody else thing?

Charles @ Coxtons is talking with the insurance tommorow and HOPEFULLY (*fingers crossed*) my insurance will cover it as part of the accident, since I reported it started doing that weird stuff right after the accident PLUS, during the accident: the car was moving backwards while in drive, which made it jeck back and forth 3 times AND I heard a big bang right after that....like something broke....

What do you think?
