Angry Alero stalling after driving 10-20 miles

I have a 2000 alero 3.4 and I'm having an interesting problem. It starts and idles fine and runs fine (even driving hard 5000rpm) except after driving 10-20 miles. It just stalls and it won't start again until after 5-20 minutes. Does anyone know the problem. I don't think it's the fuel pump...

Re: Alero stalling after driving 10-20 miles

I took my car to a local mechanic and he was telling me I needed a new fuel pump. If you're car is doing the exact same thing as I've posted it's not the fuel pump. I changed the in-tank fuel pump strainer and my car is running great. It cost 25 bucks from the local dealer and if you're handy you 'll need to drop the fuel tank and replace it.

Do you know what this strainer does? I'm just curious.

Help!

I have the same car and problem as the original poster.....after months of dealing with the intermitten 70mph stalls, i took it to a olds dealer. They said they ran diagnostic tests and found nothing.....he suggested they change the fuel filter....i went along with it hoping it was the cause.....yet on the way home.....it stalled again.

any more ideas?

I have found a salution, have your igniton moduel checked out. It is the plastic piece that your coils bolt in to. It took five times on the test machine for it to show bad on mine.

Mine stalled once and wouldnt start again. I linked it to the security light that on. It started with my brother came to pick me up. That was the only time the security thing happened while driving.

The same thing happened to me and it was the fuel pump and relay that was out.
