Experienced drivers, please comment!

I want to know some of your driving impressions of the mustang. Can you compare it to some imports from europe and japan? How does a mustang fare to, say a 350Z, supra, or BMW? What is it comparable to? I've heard people say it can perform good as any import, and others that say it cant. Personally havent driven a stang, but a big fan nontheless. Please post your opinions!

Re: Experienced drivers, please comment!

Depends. The 2000 Cobra that I drove was decent, thanks to IRS (as opposed to the solid rear ends of the GT and below models *shudder*) But even still, it has nothing on a BMW or 350Z for the joy of driving it.

Re: Experienced drivers, please comment!

A Mustang is not gonna be nearly as fun to drive as a BMW or a 350Z, and it will actually end up being tiresome. Also, the handling and braking are pretty poor. But if you want all-out straight-line-performance, it's hard to beat a supercharged V8.

Well, when I drove a Mustang GT, I wasn't very tempted to push it to its limits, because the road feel/steering feel was so poor that I had no idea when I was about to break loose.

Re: Experienced drivers, please comment!

How often do you really drive on any roads where you need the handling? Im not a fan of mustangs.. But it has the raw power, and sex appeal that easily makes it a nice car to own. Chicks dig Mustangs more than most cars.. You will be able to take most cars on the street at a light, and look good driving one. Now if you do live somewhere where the roads are winding, and really want to push a car.. Its the last of that group that you would want. BMW's and 350z's are a bit more exspensive than most Stangs, but they really are nicer cars inside, and with handling.

Re: Experienced drivers, please comment!

I just got a 98 gt a couple of weeks ago, granted the suspension has been modified, (shocks, struts, upper/lower control arms and polyurethane bushings) the handling is great, I've never felt like I was about to lose it, except when I was still getting used to the clutch (first manual car). Anyway, I spin the tires mid turn and started to fishtail, but it was quite easy to regain and I never felt out of control.

Stock mustangs don't handle all that bad most people just can't control them when they aren't used to the power. You just need to get used to the power.

Re: Experienced drivers, please comment!

Yeah, it's my lack of experience, and the fact that I've gotten used to driving my friend's Lancer Evolution, which is among the best handling cars on the planet. I know that the Mustang can handle quite well because I've seen modified ones at autocross events, but it just doesn't feel like a car that I'd like to push to its handling limits.

Re: Experienced drivers, please comment!

More ball's then your 240sx has.. Just think of how much you can mod one.. Can your 240SX withstand 800+ hp on a stock bottom end? No it can't...
