Electric superchargers!!!
First of all the ones on the ebay dont seem to work cause the fan is more like one for ur computer. Has anyone tried those? How fast do you think the fan should be to actually work??
I'm just really jealous at all those gtps and want a shortcut.

What is all the hostility against the eblowers?? I asked a technical question! How fast does this fan have to be to create hp. I think with a 250 cfm fan you could create almost 15hp but you will only have about 10 min before the battery runs out! So all needed is a switch. In off mode you will probably loose about 5-7hp. The only problem left is danger of broken particles but I think replacing the throttle body screen would prevent anything goin in. Tell me what you think and don't worry about me wasting my money. I'm rich ;p

Its got to do with Dynamics of the fan, I believe. Plus I tried it on a 91 5.0L Trans Am years ago. I am an electronics technician by trade and do not know much about cars, However if it was that easy GM would have done it years ago. And stores would not be selling 4,000 dollar superchargers. The fan just can not produce enough pressure to make a difference . If money is not an issue you should by a car with turbo or supercharger.

It's one of those things that's too good to be true but then I have heard of no one trying one as fast as 250cfm. "if it was that easy GM would have done it years ago" That would make battery charger companies rich. If they did this kids would use it all the time and run out of battery. Something like this doesn't look too good for GM they already known for inconsistency.

Theoretically it could happen I can say this for sure, but you would probably need a fan the size of one used in a wind tunnel, which would probably be the size of the front end of your car.?????

You could be right but what about these guyz at the boosthead.com they seem to have something that works with a small vacume of somesort, although its expensive enought that anyone should go with the real-thing.

The item on boosthead looks interesting but, notice its mounted to a four cylinder engine which requires less air???? I do believe its possible, however the theory behind superchargers and turbos is the way to go I believe. Fans generate a lot of heat because of power used . E times I = Power

They also have one for 3.8v6. Anyway I think I'm gonna try this. Waste 200cdn and the worst case is that I will have a nos switch on my dash, a fan to cool my overclocked desktop and a true story of the eblowers to post here.

Guess what some friend of mine bought one of these things for his civic and he wasn't happy with it. When he wanted to return it they asked for dyno test with and without the e-supercharger and pictures of his installation so he just holds on to it. I'm gonna try this tomorrow and let u know.

1st I'll preface this with "no I've never tried one," but...let's just think about this a minute.
It's not the cfm rating that matters the most. Blowers (s/c, t/c, csc) make power by compressing the air...better known as boost. You're not going to get any compression with a tiny electric fan in a little plastic case. Even the more expensive electronic units have been tested to show only 1-2 psi...and that's on their own websites. Compression is just a matter of taking a set volume of air and cramming it into a smaller space. S/Cs do it by taking big gulps of air and forcing it into the intake. Turbos and CSCs use a clamshell design that uses centrifcal force to compress the air. I don't see anything that would compress air in the e-chargers...and more importantly anything that could handle the kind of pressure that needs to be produced. No doubt there are fans out there that can move enough air...just haven't seen a fan that compresses air yet. Also as your rpms rise your blower has to provide more air to provide the same amount of boost. Anyone who has bolted on a too small turbocharger has seen the drop off in top end when its capacity is exceeded. Go too big and the opposite happens...usable boost doesn't happen until a much higher rpm...the dreaded turbo lag. Turbos and CSCs turn over 100,000 rpm to provide boost even on 4-bangers. SCs turn relatively slower, but by design (taking big gulps of air) they don't have to turn as fast. How fast can you spin that little electric motor? Heat is also a factor. Ever put your hand on the SC after you've driven it? I would strongly advise against it if you want any skin on your palm. Compressing air causes heat...the more you compress the more heat is produced...and a lot of it. If (and that's a big if) you could find a way to provide enough boost to be useful with a little electric fan it sure better be made of something more heat resistant than what I've seen out there in e-chargers. Lastly considering the things I've said above, if it did produce enough boost to be worth it, how could you just connect one of these things to the stock intake tube? Just my thoughts on the e-blowers. |

Okay I just tested it. It was a good toy to play around with but not worth the money(400$). In off mode I had no feel of lost hp and in on mode I gained probaly around 3-4hps. This is not a supercharger but if you can make one of your own for about $50 it would be worth doin so. And I will spend this money and buy a high flow throttle body instead.

How do you come up with the 3 to 4 HP...did you dyno? I really doubt you gained anything at all...I would read sonhasteg post...what he said is mostly correct.... |

No i didn't dyno but the car felt like when I removed my u-bend. Anyways I'm not tryin to advertise for this product I already said its not worth the money.
