1990-1994 Honda Accord

I have a option to buy a 1990-1994 Honda Accord LX 4dr,4-speed automatic, with 222,000 miles for $250.00, it has been sitting for two years.

I want the car for my 16-year-old son. Its in okay shape, has all the options and most of them work, needs a good cleaning-up, but over all the price is right and would make a good first-car and a good father-son project/bonding thing or a great nightmare.

The last time the owner drove it he ran it out of gas and it got towed to the City Impound lot before he could get back. He put gas in it at the lot, but it wouldn't start, he got it home, replaced the FUEL PUMP, SPARK PLUGS, PLUG WIRES, and the MAIN RELAY, still wouldn't start. That was two years ago.

I don't think it ran out of gas, I think the distributor crapped-out, if it did, shouldn't it have a lifetime warranty under the emissions system?

I've heard about a recall,is it on the distributor?

How can I verify this recall? Before I heard about any recall, I talked to a local Honda Dealers Service Department Advisor and asked for an over the phone diagnosis. After describing the problem to him, he told me nothing about a distributor recall. He suggested I bring the car in for a diagnostic check. If I didn't want to bring it in, he suggested first replacing the MAIN RELAY, then try replacing the IGNITOR, and transferred me to the Parts Department.

How can I find out if this car has already been in for this distributor recall?

Can I take it to the local Honda dealer for a replacement distributor under this recall?

If so, will it be free?

If they replace the distributor and that doesn’t fix it, will they have to at least tell me where the problem is for free?

Please help!
