tranny noise?

I have a 1986 iroc I was told the throw out bearing was bad because I kept hearing this noise. Nothing has been replaced yet. Third and fifth gear has a noise. When I let off the gas pedal the noise stops. Could this still be the throw out bearing or could it be something else? Any imput is GREATLY appreciated!

Good lookin cars. Going to the garage is what I am trying to avoid. When your a girl taking a car in to be serviced, they screw you out of unnecesary things. Thank you for your imput, I do appreciate it. This is my first standard. If it were auto I would probably know everything. I have always had tranny problems. Thanx again

Re: tranny noise?

hmmmm..... well i myself am kinda a tuned port guy lol, looks like you shoulda got on here earlier but yeah i know a thing or two, definately a few guys on here that know more than me. but yeah i would agree with that statement, about bein a girl and guys tryin to screw ya, best way to avoid it, is drop the car off, and ask if they can get it in today, like, now, if they say yes, go in with it and talk to the guy, make sure he knows you know about cars, even if your not fully up to speed on what your problem is now, still the fact that you know your stuff will make them less likely to try to screw you. well, at least regarding the car also, i seem to remember a member on here named 92RS talking about his manual, so you could try emailing him and asking what he thinks.

oh and thanx for teh compliments, the girls are pretty, well, at least in the pic, they both up on jackstands in the carport right now, stripped down, and im drivin my wrangler.

Re: tranny noise?

What are you doing to the cars? Just out of curiosity. Your black car looks pretty much like mine. I thank you for your advice. If I am going to get screwed he better drive a Camaro V8

Re: tranny noise?

nice chevelle! When I start my car up after it has been setting for a while it smokes and acts like it is missing real bad.Bad carb? Could it be rebuilt or do I need a new one? After it runs for a minute or two it runs great and I don't have that problem any more.

Re: tranny noise?

do you know what kind of carb it is? it sounds like the carb is leaking when its sitting. if its a quadrajet thats probably whats happeneing. if it is there are some plugs that they put in while building the carbs that are notoriouse(spelling) for leaking and causing a similar situation. it is an easy fix cuz all you have to do is get some JB weld and mix it up and cover the plugs and then the problem is fixed. when you buy a rebuild kit for a quadrajet they usualy come with a little spounge kinda thing that is cut to sit in a little pocket right below those plugs, it is saposed to soak up and fuel that does leak but i dont think they work the best. anyway all that is provifing that it is a quadrajet. and yes it can be rebuilt no matter what carb it is.

Re: tranny noise?

It could be something also like an electric choke messing up on warm up couldnt it???

As far as the transmission goes, taking it to a shop isnt nessicarily a bad thing, just go and get a second opinion, even a third. Just dont always go with the first quote you get because another shop might recommend something else.

could be but with it smoking and acting like its missing, i dont think the choke would effect it that much. i dont run a choke on my car, and at one point last year it wasnt tuned all the way cuz i had tryed something different that didnt work for the better and i didnt have time to tear my carb apart for a few days. so i would get up to go to work at like 5am and cold as hell outside, well for southern cali, and all it would do is not want to idle until it wormed up, it would run a little rough but not alot but once it started to worm up then it was fine. so a choke doesnt make alot of difference usualy.

Re: tranny noise?

well, the RS was nailed twice, and totaled twice, so ive got the body panels off being repaird and repainted, got the fenders hood and door back, but have yet to put them on. see the thread in the forum, "why i hate volvos" the IROC has been a project from day one, bought her from a guy in arkansas, drove her home and got her emissions and VA state inspected, no easy task. and now shes sitting, getting a new nose, new interior, new sound system, dropping a torsen rear end in her, and at the very least a new timing chain cuz i think its stretched out reallly bad, i just cant get her to run right, ill need to test the ICM first, but i think thats my problem. but while im there i also might throw on my vortec heads, new vortec/tpi baseplate, and a cam. nice little project eh

oh and a leaking carb is a very good possibility, especialy if it goes away after a min or two. and the excess gas burns out.
