Unhappy broke my driveshaft today

well i didnt my cousin did......he got the car out in front of
the house, its a straight away about a mile 1/2 long by
my house, no one else lives up through there, so its
my own drag strip. we were going to test the z28
against the ss. i was in the ss he was in the z,
we were going to see which one could outrun the
other. when my brother dropped the flag i took off
hammering down, when he hit the gas he must have really
laid it to it. i hit 130mph, when i look behind me
i didnt see the z. it was still back there, come to find out
it broke the ear off the driveshaft. what a bummer.
what is the strongest driveshaft i can get for this car?
will a 82-92 driveshaft work?

Re: broke my driveshaft today

Any fbody driveshaft from 84-2002 is interchangable basically. You could upgrade to an aluminum one but I think you can get a chrome moly one for around 350 or something like that.

Re: broke my driveshaft today

um...... i would stick with a fourth gen driveshaft, the driveshafts may be the same, but the trans yoke on the front end is different due to the different trannies, if my understanding is correct.

Re: broke my driveshaft today

Any driveshaft from 84 onwards that came from a car with a T5 or a 700R4 is a DIRECT bolt in. Alot of thirdgen guys are buying up 4th gen aluminum driveshafts because they are a 5 minute swap.

Chrome moly holds upto torque better than the stock steel and aluminum driveshafts, its not for looks.

Re: broke my driveshaft today

At the track last weekend this supercharged WS6 pulls up to the line he begins to rev the engine then he drops the clutch next thing u know his drive shaft is on the floor. they push out to the pits and in about 30min he is back on the track and runs a 12 with a sorry ass take off. I thought it was funny that they just happen to have another drive shaft laying around. u know what i mean?

Re: broke my driveshaft today

screw metal, get carbon fiber!!! atleast if you can manage to cause a failure it would atleast be really cool cause the fibers just spread apart and cause a "brooming" effect. how pimp is that!?!

but seriously id go with chrome-moly

Re: broke my driveshaft today

An aluminum 1LE driveshaft will hold any power your car is going to throw at it until you make some real power. Mine held up to my car With the 383, nitrous, and on Drag Radials for over a year before I replaced it with a Denny's Nitrous Ready (www.DennysDriveshaft.com). I would still be running it if it had 1350 series yokes on both ends like the N2O ready. The 1LE was designed for the 3rd gen 1LE cars, but was a GM replacement under a TSB on 4th Gens as well. It is smaller Diameter than an Aluminum LS1 shaft, but thicker tubing.
1LE driveshaft, GM part number 10085375, around $280 shipped from GMPartsDirect.com
